Daniel B. Grossman, M.D. is an Emergency Medicine physician and a business leader. Daniel most recently served as the first-ever Chief Medical Officer at Best Buy, where he was responsible for providing clinical leadership and guiding strategy and corporate development for Best Buy Health, Best Buy’s growing health business. In addition to his business work, Daniel practices Emergency Medicine at both Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus, in Rochester, Minnesota where he is an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and at Stanford University, where he is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine. Daniel was previously a Medical Director at Bright Health, an early-stage venture-backed health insurance company headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Daniel joined Bright Health from Medtronic, where he built and led Medtronic Labs — a businesses dedicated to transforming healthcare for underserved patients in emerging geographies by bringing locally-appropriate services, solutions, and products to market. Daniel also advised across Medtronic on business development, strategy, and the changing environment of healthcare delivery in the U.S. and internationally.
Prior to joining Medtronic, Daniel was at Stanford University, where he was a faculty member in the Division of Emergency Medicine at the School of Medicine and an attending physician in the Emergency Department at Stanford University Medical Center. Daniel trained in Emergency Medicine at Stanford University, where he served as a Chief Resident. During residency he practiced clinically at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Monrovia, Liberia, as a Yale/Stanford Johnson & Johnson Global Health Scholar. After completing residency training, Daniel joined the clinical faculty of Stanford University and completed a fellowship in International Emergency Medicine. As part of the fellowship, he worked closely with GVK Emergency Management Research Institute (EMRI) in Hyderabad, India, to design curricula and to teach courses for physicians from district hospitals across India. He was also a short-term visiting professor at the University of Zimbabwe and Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare. Daniel’s business experience includes Boston Consulting Group, Paramount BioCapital, and Mayo Medical Ventures. He has also consulted for venture capital firms in the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, Boston, and in Israel.
Daniel is active in his community and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Walker Art Center and on the Board of Directors of The Yaya Foundation for 4H Leukodystrophy.
Daniel received his B.A. from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, and served as the Young Alumnus on the Board of Regents of the College. He participated in the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he received his M.D. from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Medicine and M.B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Business.
