Early Images
/Here are a couple photos from early on in his injury:
Selfie from the helicopter. Somehow Daniel was cognizant enough to contact all of the important people required to coordinate his care (amazing ED colleagues Laura and Cameron Berg, who were incredible!), and take a selfie strapped to the board.
Here's his first time sitting upright in bed - this is very difficult for patients with spinal cord injuries. First of all, you have to have a brace on because of the recent spine stabilization surgery. Second, your blood pressure drops anytime you sit up because your blood rushes to your legs and the nerves that used to constrict your veins and send that blood back up to your core (and head), don't work any more. So you get dizzy and your blood pressure gets really low. Big deal to get up out of bed for the first time!
